There has been hidden treasure in Grand Blanc for 15 years and I have found it! It is DaEdoardo
North Ristorante. One of three more sister restaurants in the Detroit area, this eatery is rich in flavor and family history.
Edoardo Barbieri fought in World War II in the Italian Army. Becoming a prisoner of war, Edoardo was brought to the states and held in several places, Fort Wayne in Detroit of note.
After meeting his future bride and being released, Edoardo returned to Italy. After they married, the Barbieri’s returned to Detroit with less than $50 in their pocket. After

working in other restaurants, he opened his own in 1956, and later, with his son, in 1978, opened the first DaEdoardo in Grosse Pointe Woods. Knowing the family history is knowing that this is much more than a business venture. This is three generations sharing authentic Northern Italian family recipes with us.
DaEdoardo North has a warm, rich feel upon entering accented with multiple levels, a fireplace, and bar area. Capacity for 175 including patio seating that overlooks an amazingly lush wooded area and pergola covered in wisteria. There are tables with umbrellas, outdoor lounge furniture and fireplaces that lend to the ambiance. The restaurant was a popular stop for players and attendees of the Buick Open. Private rooms accommodate wedding parties, showers and other private events. And once you sample the menu, you will understand why DaEdoardo should be a top choice for any catered event.
The menus offer a perfect variety. At lunch, soups and salads, individual artisan pizzas, sandwiches, pasta entrees and decadent desserts. Dinner takes it to another level with the same

and more with top quality cuts of steak, lamb, veal, seafood and chicken. The Antipasti, or appetizer selection is practically impossible to choose from, and an extensive wine list to compliment any selection you make.
Popular menu items include the Fettuccine alla Bolognese, Penne DaEdoardo, and the Chicken Milanese Salad. Do not let your visit go without someone at your table ordering the Chicken Marsala. Better make it a double order. The Marsala sauce was the best I have ever tasted and loved the addition of large pieces of sun-dried tomato. The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and the Bolognese sauce, perfectly balanced. No added sugars are used in the sauces. Ingredients are fresh and the quality is apparent.
In addition to lunch and dinner menus, a bar menu is offered during open hours, every day.
Or you may want to take advantage of early week specials. Mondays offer a 1/2 bottle of wine with the purchase of an entree and Tuesday is two entrees and a bottle of wine for $41.00. Specials are based on select menu items (the most popular).
I was fortunate enough to chat with the proprietors, Eddie and Susie Barbieri. One of the first things that I learned was that Edoardo Sr. imparted, “The food has got to be good.” And words cannot express how good it is. This is hopefully a legacy that will continue for generations to come.
