Linden Repeats As Girls' Soccer League Title Goes to Final Game

It came down to a must-win game at the end of the league season, but Linden handed Fenton its first league defeat of the girls’ soccer season, 5-0, to repeat as league champion, its sixth league championship overall.  Madison Paige made seven saves to record the shutout, and Gabby Freeman, Erica Breitling, Maddie Zayan (2) and Alia Frederick scored goals.

Linden’s only loss came in a shootout with Flushing.  This was the first season for Metro League girls’ soccer using a new system for use when games are tied in regulation.  Teams received three points for a win in regulation, two points for a win in a shootout, and one point for a loss in a shootout.  Overtimes are not played in league games.
