Frenton Arts Council Announces “Arts Are The Heart”

Fenton Arts CouncilThe Fenton Arts Council is very excited to announce there are four “Arts Are The Heart” events, and twelve butterflies coming to Fenton this summer!

“Arts Are The Heart” is a series of four, FREE family art events that will be held in the lower level of the Fenton Community & Cultural Center, and Rackham Park, directly behind the Cultural Center. They will be on the third Friday of May, June, July and August: May 19, June 16, July 21 and August 18. The time is the same for each event : 4pm to 7pm. Each event will highlight Creation Stations, Art Camps, Music, Dance, Drama, Art Exhibits, Living Statues, A Chalk Artist, and much more.

The May 19th event, will feature The Prelude String Orchestra, a youth music group. The Art Camp will encourage participants to get creative and make collage butterflies. There will also be a multitude of other activities for attendees to enjoy.

The  Fenton Arts Council picks a different theme each year for their events. The theme this year is butterflies. The Council took their inspiration from the metal butterfly that has been purchased for the City of Fenton by one of the merchants. It has been located by the river on the east side of Leroy Street. We have all seen how popular the butterfly was to visitors and residents of Fenton. We consider our butterfly theme to be an homage to that first butterfly! In addition, we feel the butterfly represents the transformation the City has undergone in the last couple of years. Just as a butterfly emerges from its chrysalis, the City has emerged from its chrysalis of redevelopment and beautification.

With butterflies as our theme, we are especially delighted to announce that 14 local businesses have sponsored 12 butterfly sculptures. The butterflies will be transformed into works of art by professional artists.  They will be unveiled to the community at the Friday, June 16  “Arts Are The Heart” event.
