The first Cup Series practice for the Monster Energy NASCAR drivers is in the books. A brief shower that passed over Bristol Motor Speedway interrupted the session for a few minutes. However, all 41 cars entered made laps working on chassis set-ups.
Denny Hamlin(11) posted the fastest time at 129.230 mph. The fastest Ford? Ryan Blaney(21) ran the fourth-fastest lap at 128.917. Other Fords in the top 10, Clint Bowyer(14) fifth, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.(17) in ninth.
Last weeks’s winner, Kyle Larson(42) spun coming out of turn four and slid sideways across the start/finish line. Fortunately for the 42 team, Larson did not contact the wall. He just ruined a set of Goodyear Eagle race tires. Flat-spotting them as he skated down the front stretch.
Kyle Busch(41) finished second and Kasey Kahne(5) ran third in the morning session. Other notables, Brad Keselowski(2) 17th at 127.495, Kevin Harvick(4) ran the exact same speed later to place 18th. Joey Logano(22) finished a disappointing 30th with a speed of 126.395. Dale Earnhardt Jr.(88) posted the 27th fastest speed, 126.695.
