Flint’s Johnny Manuel brought the judges to their feet Tuesday night on America’s Got Talent. Singing “And I Am Telling You” from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls. Johnny powered through the Soprano notes with ease. Channeling Jennifer Hudson, who sang the song in the movie version of Dreamgirls, in much the same manner he did Whitney Houston in his original audition.
Standing atop an elevated platform above a four-piece band accompanying him, Johnny nailed the vocals. After climbing down from the platform all four judges heaped praise on his performance.
The AGT live shows commence the start of eliminations based on votes from viewers. After their performance, each contestant has a phone number displayed that fans of the act can call hoping to keep their favorites in the competition. The five highest vote getters move on to the semi finals.
Johnny’s Competition
Despite a live mechanical failure. The high tech group called “Light Balance” displayed their illuminated dance routine. A crowd favorite, they are likely to advance based on the audience reaction to the flashing neon display.
Pre-teen Marrick Hanna added some techno to his dance routine and drew rave reviews from Simon Cowell. The charming youngster seems to connect well with the audience and is also a favorite to advance.
The night was marked with multiple prop failures as well as a live spat between Mel B and Simon Cowell. But, talent won out and up-close magician Eric Jones amazed the judges with his three part pass through glass act.
