Nite Lites: Christmas at Michigan International Speedway

Depending on where you live Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is less than a 90-minute drive from much of Southern Michigan, Northern Ohio and Indiana. This Holiday season grab a couple of Christmas CD’s, pack the family in the car, and make the drive to the Irish Hills. I promise it will be worth it.

Once again this year MIS features an outdoor light display on the grounds of the speedway. Only this year it has expanded to a 3-mile journey adding 500,000 more lights from last year’s 1.5-mile event. Nite Lites costs $20 per carload to drive through the display that features 65 different themes, a 250-foot lighted tunnel, six 30-foot mega trees and three 20-foot mega-trees. It’s the largest outdoor Christmas lights display in Michigan.

After driving around turns one and two with a preview of what’s to come, the entry gate is on the front side of the track. Circle around to the backstretch, cross the track to the infield, and work through circuit unto pit road. Exiting across the track at turn three. There is also a stop at Winter Wonderland in one of the Speedways outbuildings. Visit with Santa, see live reindeer on select evenings. Take pictures, enjoy refreshments, and kids can complete a Holiday themed “make and take” craft project.

“It has been fun to watch all the displays be built throughout our property and we are excited to watch it all come to life,” track President Rick Brenner said. “This is a special time of the year for families and now they can experience it at MIS. This is a great community event that brings people to the Irish Hills and we look forward to hosting it at Michigan International Speedway for many years to come.”
