Little Caesars Arena is one of the sites at the center of the college basketball world this weekend. The new home of the Red Wings and Pistons is hosting 1st and 2nd round games in the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championships. March Madness invades the Motor City.
Games Friday and Sunday feature teams from the East and Midwest regions. The number two seed in the East, Purdue faces 15th seed Cal State Fullerton. Also in the East seventh seed Arkansas takes on 10th seeded Butler. Those games are Friday, the winners meet Sunday to determine who moves forward to the Sweet 16.
Also Friday in the Midwest region. Number three seed Michigan State takes on the 14th seed Bucknell. The sixth seed TCU plays Syracuse who earned their 11th seed by defeating Arizona State in Wednesday’s play-in First Four matchup.
This was my first visit to Little Caesars Arena. Yes, I have been a little slow in getting downtown. The facility is marvelous. The parking garage is large and well laid out. No squeezing into spaces that will barely fit a sub-compact. The concourse around the arena offers a number of interesting food establishments. As well as team stores for souvenirs and clothing merchandise.
The seating is comfortable and sight lines are excellent. The four-sided center video screen is spectacular. Concessions dot the concourse and large spacious restrooms provide close access to all seating area. There is even a mothers room to allow the youngest fans a place for Mom to address their needs.
