Darrell Waltrip won 12 times at Bristol Motor Speedway. Including 7 wins in a row from 1981 to 1984. If you wanted a tutorial on what it takes to get around the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” there is no one better to consult than “DW”, he is the master.
Darrell is a three-time Champion in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series. He finished second in the Series Championship 3 more times. He knows about dominating. In addition to his Cup record 12 wins at Bristol, he holds the Series modern era record of 22 top-five finishes in the 1983 season. His 84 Cup Series victories tie him with Bobby Allison for 4th on the all-time Series wins list.
After a stellar career on the track, he is now one of the most popular sports color commentators on television. His knowledge of NASCAR and a down-home sense of humor endear him to stock car racing fans during Fox broadcasts of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

If you were going to hitch a ride around the high-banked track at “The Last Great Colosseum” he’d be the gladiator you’d want to pilot the chariot. Despite his 71 years, DW is still adept at navigating the tight corners and hurtling down the straightaways. As he recalls the memories of a career most could only dream of, his recollections are crystal clear. Put him in a drivers suit and he could still teach the young guns a trick or two.
Ride along as Darrell takes us on a few laps around Bristol Motor Speedway.
