Matt Klann is a polite young man until you get him on a motocross track. Then the competitive spirit turns on and he is all-in start to finish. Matt has earned his AMA Pro-license and is entered to compete in several Lucas Oil Motocross Championship races this season. Including the prestigious Red Bull Redbud National in Buchanan, MI on the weekend after the Fourth of July.

Matt’s dad bought him his first motorbike at the age of four. During his pre-teen and early teen years, Matt rode for fun. “It was something to do with my buddies. We would go out and ride just to have a good time.”

Around the time Matt graduated from Howell High School in 2014, he began to get serious about racing motocross. Continuing his education at Lansing Community College keeps him close to home. Providing plenty of time to work on his riding skills.

Redbud MX is recognized as one of the premier motocross tracks in the country. Home to the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship Series races July 6th and 7th. It’s also one of Matt’s favorites. “I have ridden at Redbud several times since I was 10 years old. It’s a wide track with lots of room for passing. Not like some of the single groove tracks we run on.”

Up to 100 riders will compete over the weekend. Matt runs in the 250cc division. His choice of bikes? A Honda 250F. Qualifying races determine the field of 40 riders who will compete in the main event. Two motos with the winner earning the top spot based on a combination of the two runs.

Can Matt Klann compete? He thinks so. As does Matt Lasco, he has seen a number of young motocross athletes ride throughout Southern Michigan. He helped young professional Jacob Williamson train at CrossFit Tuebor West. According to Matt Lasco, “Matt Klann is a special talent. He can be a star in our sport if he can stay focused, work hard, and catch a couple of breaks. Yes, he can compete at the professional level.”

One break Matt Klann could use is some sponsorship for his race team. Redbud offers a high visibility opportunity for sponsorship exposure. Matt is personable and would be a great product spokesman for a local business. Currently, Matt receives help from his parents Greg and Dianne.  Tim and Heather at TCD Racing in Clarkston also provide some sponsorship assistance. Contact Matt via email at (mattyklann1655@gmail.com) to get involved.

We will be following Matt as he competes at Redbud. The Lasco Press will update his big weekend. We wish him well and will be watching to see what kind of excitement he can produce in the Red Bull Redbud National.
