October is a great time to get out and enjoy Michigan’s cooler fall weather. There are numerous happenings in our area from witches to spooks, apple cider to donuts, art, and food. Something for everyone. Here is a list of a few activities around town and about that you can take the family and enjoy some local fun.
Month-Long Activities
It seems everyone has a Halloween activity or party scheduled, but between now and the end of the month there is a lot going on. How about starting with some month-long family fun.
Spicer Orchards
Date: Daily thru October
Time: 9 am to 7 pm
You can stop into Spicer Orchards and pick some apples or fall raspberries. Visit the market store for fresh apple cider and homemade donuts. Shopping for some tasty treats, candies, jams, jellies and assorted sweet treats are popular this time of year. Weekends the fun ramps up with more family activities.

The corn maze is open daily for a wild romp through the corn stalks. Spicer Orchards is located at 10411 Clyde Rd. in Fenton.

Rotten Manor
Date: Weekends in October
Time: 7 pm to “until”
Do you enjoy being scared out of your wits? According to fans of the Rotten Manor Haunted House that is exactly what happens when you pay a visit to the haunted house themed attraction in Holly at 13245 Dixie Highway.
Lori J says, “Rotten Manor is the best haunted house I have ever been to thus far. Every year there is something different and more creepy lurking in the distance. I love the adrenaline rush and great actors.”
Matt S called described the Rotten Manor experience, “Great attractions, great atmosphere. Staff is great. this is an awesome haunted experience that you don’t want to pass up this season. I highly recommend you put this on your to-do list this fall!!!”

Arts Are The Heart
Date: October 5th
Time: 10 am to 2 pm
“Arts Are The Heart” (AATH) is a community-based art series which strives to build awareness for the arts in the community, interfacing with families, schools and businesses. AATH provides visual art exploration, music performances and exploration, dance performances, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) connected experiences. AATH is a distinctive series of events for exposure to and engagement in art and culture for families in downtown Fenton.
The fall event is held at World of Wonder; Fenton Public School’s Ellen St. Campus, 404 W. Ellen Street in Fenton.
1st Annual Highland Octoberfest
Date: October 5th
Time: 11 am to 5 pm
Thanks to Highland Pets, Save-A-Lot, and 59 West; Highland Plaza at 744 W Highland Road is hosting their 1st annual Octoberfest. Activities include entertainment, live music, face painting, bounce houses and costume contests for pets, kids, and adults. Food, vendors, a chili cookoff and more. The event is free, bring the family and kick-off October with some festival fun.
Witches Night Out
Date: October 11th
Time: 5 pm to 9 pm
Witches night out is an adult-friendly event! Come to downtown Fenton dressed as a good witch, bad witch, or wizard for a spooktacular night of shopping. Stroll the merchants for scary good sales, prizes, and treats. Help “Stuff the Boot” and support the Fenton Firefighters Charities. Stop by the Fenton Museum for a free shopping bag while supplies last.

The Howling Haunted Trail & Halloween Party
Dates: October 11-12 & 18-19
Times: 7 pm to 11 pm
Unlike any other local haunted attraction, The Howling mixes unexpected scares with the fun of Halloween. This is not for the faint of heart. Not recommended for children or those who scare easily. The trail takes you back into the deep woods to where the wild things come out to play. You will encounter spirits & creatures that lurk after dark as you attempt
to find your way thru the twisting & turning path.
Upon successful completion, gain nourishment in the snack tent, included with $15 admission. Beer tent on-site for an additional cost. All proceeds from the event go to Adopt-a-Pet. The Howling Haunted Trail is located at 13575 N. Fenton Rd. in Fenton.

Halloween at the Market and the Grand Chalet Shoppes
Date: October 13th
Time: 11 am to 1 pm
Bring your costumed kids and doggies to celebrate Halloween in the daytime during the last Grand Blanc Farmers Market Sunday of the year… There will be a costume contest and safe Trick or Treating from Market Vendors, Tent-to-Tent, and to the Chalet Shoppes. Crafts, games, and prizes, the farmers market is located at Reid Rd & Grand Blvd in Grand Blanc.

An Event So Good It’s Scary 2019
Date: October 31st
Time: 1 pm to 6 pm
At local participating Fenton/Linden businesses, stop in with your Halloween Costume and goodie bag for some candy and fun. The annual “An Event So Good It’s Scary” is a community favorite trick or treat activity.

Football
We can’t leave October without talking about football. The local Fenton high schools will be wrapping up their seasons and getting ready for the playoffs. The Fenton Tigers play four home games during the month and Lake Fenton High School wraps up their schedule with three home games and a visit to Linden for the final regular-season contest.
