Another college football team drops from the ranks of the unbeaten. Oklahoma, the number 5 ranked team last week, went on the road to Kansas State and lost 48-41. Penn State, a 28-7 winner over Michigan State, moved into the top 5.

LSU is the new number 1 team in the land. After defeating 9th ranked Auburn 23-20, LSU jumped over Alabama who slid to 2nd after a 47-7 mauling of Arkansas. Next week, in the game of the year to date, LSU visits Alabama where the top team in college football will be decided on the field.

Ohio State and Clemson remain 3rd and 4th respectively in this week’s rankings.

Michigan Shakes Off Defeat at Penn State to Dominate Notre Dame

The Big House was packed, despite a constant downpour in the first half, as the Michigan Wolverines rebounded from a bitter defeat at Penn State to pound the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 45-14.

Finally playing up to their potential, the Wolverines embarrassed 8th ranked Notre Dame in all phases of the game.

The win boosted Michigan (5-2) to the 14th spot in the poll while dropping the Irish to 16th. Michigan will have a chance to prove the big win was not a fluke when they travel to Maryland next Saturday to take on the lightly regarded Terrapins.

Michigan State Loses Again

The Spartans of Michigan State were no match for the Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday.

Despite looking like a good upset candidate on paper. The game, played in a virtual monsoon at Spartan Stadium, was supposed to even out Penn State’s big-play offense with Michigan States’ ability to grind out long drives. The opposite happened as the Nittany  Lions exploited the Spartan’s defense and shut down the offense on their way to a 28-7 win.

At 4-4 Michigan State’s bowl chances are dependent on the Spartans pulling off two wins against Illinois, Michigan, Rutgers, and Maryland. They have this weekend off to work on the game plan for the remainder of the season.
