We as a nation owe so much to our veterans that have served to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day. Without their selfless sacrifice, it would not be possible for us to live proud and free. It is almost incomprehensible to imagine that there are an estimated 38,000 homeless veterans in the United States today.

Reducing that number is the goal of a new charitable organization founded right here in Michigan. Veteran Village USA is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization with a mission to “Feed, house, and support homeless and at-risk Veterans. Their goal is to open 6 locations throughout the United States, over the next 8 years.” “Allowing our Veterans who served our country to live on the streets is appalling, we feel it is time to help those who dedicated themselves for our freedom.”

Does this sound like a cause you can get excited about? A fundraiser for the group is scheduled for Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Colonial Lanes, 6430 W. Pierson Rd. in Flushing, MI 48433. There will be two sessions, the first starting at noon and the second at 3 pm. You can enjoy unlimited bowling for two hours, including shoe rental for $125 per lane with up to four bowlers.

This is a great chance to meet organizers and others who feel the same way about our responsibilities to service veterans. It’s also a great opportunity for business to sponsor a lane and have their employees enjoy a fun afternoon outing. Or, get a group of friends together and all pitch in for the camaraderie and a good time. There will also be a 50/50 drawing at 4 pm for the opportunity to grab some cash.
