Thankfully garbage collection is an essential service during the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order in Michigan. However, as has been the case through the COVID-19 pandemic, things change daily. If Republic Services is the company that provides your community’s garbage collection, here is an update.
Bulk collection services have been temporarily suspended. Only garbage that is inside approved containers will be picked up by route drivers. “Wait!! I’m using the downtime to remodel my kitchen.” No worries, Republic has a workaround. Bulk containers are still available if you need to have a large quantity of trash hauled off.
As everyone is working to protect themselves and companies are watching out for their employees, it is understandable certain precautions need to be taken. This is Republic Services statement on COVID-19.
“We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation to make sure we’re doing the right thing for the health and safety of our employees, customers, and communities. Our number one priority is safety, and that is at the forefront of every decision we make.
As one of the country’s top recycling and solid waste collection companies, we provide an essential service for communities across the nation, and like the police and fire departments, we have permission to continue to operate in circumstances like these to help protect and serve the public.
We are closely monitoring developments to ensure we address issues quickly, effectively and – most importantly – safely. This includes continuing to work closely with public health experts and other advisors, as well as following guidance from the CDC.
Our Customer Support Teams are working hard to answer your calls during this busy time, and we appreciate your patience. To serve you faster, you can visit our Customer Support page to request services, check schedules, and manage your account.”
