Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT — June 10, 2020

The Monster Energy AMA Supercross series returns for its 2nd midweek run at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Round 14 of the 2020 Season welcomes back the 250SX West riders for their first event since February 8th in San Diego.

Defending Champion Dylan Ferrandis(1W), Justin Cooper(32), and Austin Forkner(52) are separated by just 13 points at the top of the standings. Tonight’s race will go a long ways towards determining who is the favorite to wear the 250SX West crown in 2020.

250SX West Heats

Ferrandis grabbed the holeshot in Heat 1, Cameron McAdoo(29) rode hot on his rear tire until Ferrandis left the door open for McAdoo to make the pass. Riding to the inside, McAdoo’s rear-wheel kicked out and caught the rear-wheel of the leader’s bike sending Ferrandis over the handlebars and onto a tuff block. Ferrandis recovered and reentered the race in 7th place.

Karma caught up to McAdoo a few laps later as Michael Mosiman(28) made contact with the leader dumping McAdoo off his bike. Christian Craig(62) moved past to take the Heat win, Mosiman finished 2nd, McAdoo 3rd, and Ferrandis came back to finish 5th.

In Heat 2 Austin Forkner earned the holeshot and led every lap. Jett Lawrence(83) returned from a brutal crash at Anaheim to take 2nd place. Lawrence had a shot at Forkner late in the race but pushed too hard and got out of control dropping the bike. His margin over 3rd place Brandon Hartranft(30) was enough to allow Lawrence to get back on the bike and hold his position.

250SX West Main Event

Justin Cooper earned the holeshot win over Austin Forkner, but his lead did not last long as Forkner led the first lap and never looked back. Points leader Dylan Ferrandis got mired in a battle back in the pack. When riders began to space out, Ferrandis began his march to the front and moved up to the 2nd position. However, he was unable to catch Forkner. McAdoo finished 3rd with Cooper 4th.

The win allowed Forkner to move one point ahead of Cooper, he still trails Ferrandis by 10 points in the season-long 250SX West standings.

450SX Heats

Ken Roczen(94) and Cooper Webb(1) are chasing Eli Tomac(3) in the 450SX division. They squared off in Heat 1 for the big bikes. Zach Osborne got the holeshot but was passed quickly by the two championship contenders with Webb in the lead. Roczen made several runs at Webb, briefly nosing in front. Webb was able to hold him off and take the Heat win.

Martin Davalos(37) got out fast for the holeshot win, with Tomac starting in 5th. Settling into 3rd by the end of Lap 1, Tomac patiently worked his way past Blake Baggett(4) into 2nd and began closing on the leader.

With 2 laps to go Tomac made the pass for what was ultimately the Heat win. Baggett also got by Davalos to take the 2nd spot. Holly, Michigan’s Broc Tickle finished 7th in the 2nd Heat and will have the 14th gate choice in the featured event.

450SX Main Event

Ken Roczen edged out Cooper Webb for the holeshot win, but Webb shot into the lead on the first lap. Tomac got a horrible start coming out of the gate 15th. By the end of the first lap, Tomac was in the 12th spot.

Roczen made several runs at the defending champion, Webb fought off every challenge. While Tomac rode smartly, methodically picking off riders as he moved forward.

At the finish, Webb had stretched his lead to a comfortable five seconds. Roczen faded to 5th as Zach Osborne(16) took 2nd place. Tomac fought back for the final podium spot and Baggett worked his way into the 4th finishing position.

Tomac lost five points to Webb and gained three on Roczen. With the win, Webb passed Roczen for 2nd in the points up by 2 on his rival. Tomac still leads by 27, more than a one-race points lead. He can cruise to his first-ever 450SX championship by riding smart and staying out of trouble.
