Universal Studios, Hollywood, CA — October 28, 2020
The popular singing competition “The Voice” is back for Season 19 on NBC. The show airs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 pm. Episode 3 from Monday, October 26, 2020, featured a local connection.
A 28-year-old by the name of Rio Souma wowed the judges with some Mowtown Magic. The competition is currently in its blind audition segment, early in the season. Souma laid down an impressive cover of “Cruisin” the 1979 classic by Smokey Robinson. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani buzzed in to vie for the opportunity to mentor the silver-voiced contestant.

Souma has more than a vocal connection to Motown. He lives in Detroit and works at one of the auto assembly plants in the Motor City. He chose John Legend to be his coach and is already a fan favorite as the show’s stars are drafting teams. Check out his performance on YouTube.
The Lasco Press will keep tabs on Rio as he progresses through the competition. Good Luck Sir, do Michigan proud.
