Fenton, MI — October 30, 2020
Friday night lights in October mean high school football. The Fenton Tigers entered the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) playoffs Friday with an opening-round game against Walled Lake Central.
Due to the pandemic, teams played fewer games this year and every school qualified for the postseason. Central entered the game winless at 0-6 while Fenton was coming off a sterling undefeated season, 6-0, with dominant wins against league opponents. It would have been easy for Fenton to overlook Central given the disparities in their records.
They didn’t. After receiving the opening kickoff Central went 3 and out. Punting the ball to Fenton, whose offense scored on their first possession. The score at the end of the 1st Quarter was 7-0 Fenton.

In the 2nd, Fenton scored early and often. A solid defense and quick score offense led to a 26-3 halftime lead.

With just parents and friends in attendance, the Fenton High School Band was there to provide entertainment while the teams regrouped for the 2nd half.

Central recovered a successful onside kick to start the 3rd quarter. But Fenton’s defense held. Adding a touchdown, Fenton led 29-3 at the end of 3 quarters. Another Tiger touchdown and the successful extra point made the final score 36-3.

Fenton moves on to face North Farmington at home next week, trying to extend their unbeaten streak and move further in the playoffs. Go Tigers.
