Another Michigan Singer, Skylar Alyvia Mayton, Joins The Voice

Universal Studios, Hollywood, CA — October 28, 2020

Last night on the NBC Television hit show, “The Voice,” another Michigan singer earned a spot on this year’s show with Team Kelly. Last week Rio Souma, a Detroit Native, performed a cover of “Cruisin” the 1979 classic by Smokey Robinson and chose John Legend to be his coach.

Skylar Alyvia Mayton, a 15-year from Grand Rapids, MI, struck a chord with Kelly Clarkson performing “Blinding Lights” by “The Weeknd.”

According to her NBC Bio, “Skylar Alyvia Mayton has been singing since she could talk and took voice lessons at a young age, which led to her involvement in theater. Skylar is fluent in Spanish and focuses on her studies and sports during the school year but performs locally in the summers and even got to sing the National Anthem at a Chicago Bulls game.”

“As a Christmas gift last year, she finally got to see her idol, Kelly Clarkson, perform in concert. Skylar is thrilled to perform on “The Voice” stage in front of Kelly and hopes to prove she can compete with people of all ages.”

The Lasco Press will follow Rio and Skylar through the season as the competition portion of the show ramps up.
