After Michigan State pulled the big upset last week over cross-state rival Michigan, you might have expected the Spartans to carry some significant momentum into Kinnick Stadium on their trip to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. After all, Iowa entered the game 0-2 with losses to Purdue and Northwestern to open the season. Nope!
Michigan State fell flat, losing to Iowa 49-7. It might be tough to find a Spartan highlight this week. Michigan State quarterback, Rocky Lombardi, could not duplicate the magic he showed last week against the Wolverines. Lombardi went 17-37 and threw 3 interceptions. The Spartans could only manage 59 yards rushing and their defense gave up 405 yards to the Hawkeyes. A complete team defeat.
Michigan vs Indiana
Michigan, looking to rebound from their disappointing showing versus Michigan State, ran into a buzzsaw at Indiana. The Hoosiers accumulated 460 total yards, made 28 first downs, and held the ball for almost 40 minutes.

Michigan went 3-11 on 3rd down, committed 8 penalties for 89 yards, threw 2 interceptions, and ran just 52 plays compared to 88 for Indiana. After exchanging touchdowns early in the 1st quarter, it was never close as Indiana marched to a 38-21 victory.
Next week Michigan State hosts Indiana, Wisconsin is supposed to travel to take on the Wolverines at the “Big House.” Whether the Badgers make the trip depends on the status of the COVID-19 infections within the program. Wisconsin has not played the last 2 weekends due to the virus activity among players and staff.
