AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX — March 13, 2021
The AMA Supercross week-long, three events stay, at Jerry Jones’ Cowboys’ football palace provided excitement and a new points leader in the 450 SX Championship chase. The course layout provided a short run to the 1st corner, a 90-degree lefthander, putting a premium on getting a good start out of the gate.
250 SX
Heat 1 saw Seth Hammaker(150) lead from start to finish for the 1st heat win of his career. In Heat 2, Jalek Swoll(47) and Hunter Lawrence(41) battled for the lead early. While the two riders fighting for the points lead, Justin Cooper(32) and Cameron McAdoo(31) ran 3rd and 4th. In the closing laps, the two pairs swapped positions with Cooper taking the win over points leader McAdoo. Lawrence passed Swoll for the 3rd spot.
In the Main Event, Hammaker was again fast out of the gate and into the early lead. His teammate Jordan Smith(80) settled into 2nd. McAdoo and Cooper started in 8th and 9th respectively. Smith hit a tuff block, allowing Lawrence to move into 2nd behind Hammaker who was stretching the advantage out front.
McAdoo and Cooper moved up to 4th and 5th when Smith went down directly in front of McAdoo. Smith exited the event. A late bobble by Hammaker allowed Lawrence to close, but the rookie held off the charge. Hammaker grabbed his first 250 SX Main Event win with Lawrence finishing 2nd.
Cooper made a late pass around McAdoo looking to shave two-points off the leader’s four-point advantage. McAdoo gained the position back. As they came to the final corner, Cooper cut hard trying to get the position back but his rear tire slipped and he laid the bike down. Cooper quickly remounted and finished 4th, just losing the 2 points for the position.
McAdoo now holds a six-point lead over Cooper. He is 12 up on Lawrence, 13 ahead of Garrett Marchbanks(48), and Hammaker trails by 15. The Arlington tripleheader continues Teusday night and concludes next Saturday.

450 SX
In the 1st Heat of the 450 SX class, points leader Ken Roczen(94) was 4th out of the gate chasing Jason Anderson(21) in the lead. Michigan’s Broc Tickle(20) got a poor start in the 13th position.
Roczen moved up to 3rd and was pressing the leaders when he missed a triple and dropped his bike after landing short on the jump. Anderson held on for the Heat win. Roczen dropped to 7th and could not recover after his mishap. Tickle could only climb to 11th and will have to rely on the LCQ to make the Main.
Heat 2 featured its own drama with Joey Savatgy(17) out to the early lead. Aaron Plessinger(7), continuing his strong run from Daytona riding with the leaders. Eli Tomac(1) and Cooper Webb(2) started 7th and 8th.
Just past the halfway point of the moto, Plessinger took the lead. Marvin Musquin(25), the top qualifier, ran 2nd with Tomac and Webb rounding out the Top 4. Musquin crashed hard and left the course, Webb passed Tomac with two laps to go to finish 3rd behind Plessinger and Savatgy.
450 SX Main Event
Roczen’s poor finish in the Heat cost him a quality gate pick in the Main Event. Settling for a badly rutted track just past the gate, he dropped to 11th on the start. Tomac faired worse going out in 16th.
At Daytona, Roczen accused Webb of riding him hard into the tuff blocks and vowed to respond in kind. He never got the chance, Webb shot to the lead and was never challenged. Roczen and Tomac made some progress towards the front, moving to 7th and 9th at the halfway point of the race.
With too many quality riders in the front, points leader Roczen and defending champion Tomac could only manage finishes of 6th and 8th. Justin Barcia(51) and Jason Anderson(21) trailed Webb across the finish line. Chase Sexton(23) finished 4th with Plessinger 5th.

Webb jumped to the points lead and is now 7 up on Roczen. Tomac lost all the ground he gained with his win last week at Daytona, he trails Webb by 33 points. While Tomac is not mathematically eliminated, his hopes of a title repeat are all but dead. Roczen will need to put a stop to his recent slide to prevent Webb from taking his 2nd championship in the last three years. Maybe Tuesday night’s race will provide the drama between the two everyone expected.
