Monday night’s episode of the NBC musical hit “The Voice” featured three singers from Michigan competing to advance to the live shows where America votes on their favorites. Unfortunately, Coach John Legend paired two of his Michigan talents against each other in their knockout-round appearances.

Powerful Performances

Rio Doyle the 16-year old from Adrian, Michigan, and Zania Alaké from Detroit faced off in the best matchup of the evening. Rio sang Julia Michaels’ “Issues,” a rendition that belied her young age. Rio’s theatrical performance drew rave reviews from the coaches who commented not only on her vocal chops but the manner in which she delivered it.

Zania stepped up and blew everyone away with her commanding delivery of the Gladys Knight classic “If I Were Your Woman.” Zania controlled the stage and spotlight as if it were her own song instead of a cover from an established artist. Clearly the best performance of the evening, if not the season.

Surprisingly Doyle was not stolen by another coach as the contest moves out of their hands and into the hands of the viewing audience next week.

Rachel Mac

Another impressive performance from Rachel Mac from Romeo, Michigan sent her into the live shows as one of the singers that could win the entire competition. Rachel delivered a flawless performance of Jewel’s “Foolish Games.” The star of Nick Jonas’ team of singers is the 15-year old phenom with the voice of a seasoned professional.

The Voice is broadcast on NBC, Monday nights at 8 pm.
