Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, GA — April 9, 2021
After the 2nd round of The Masters, Justin Rose still leads and there is a story there. But, the bigger story may be who won’t be around to compete Saturday and Sunday when 48 players made the cut within 10 strokes of the lead at least 3 over par.
Failed to Make the Cut
Matt Kuchar and Sergio Garcia are going home after failing to qualify by a single stroke at 4 over par. Lee Westwood, Dustin Johnson, and Brooks Koepka are out at 5 over par. Along with Rory McIlroy at 6 over.
Rose Still on Top
The magic of the opening round left Justin Rose quickly at the beginning of Round 2 of The Masters. After making bogey on 4 of the first 7 holes, against a lone birdie, Rose lost the lead he held after day one.
He did manage to string together 3 birdies on the back nine and returned to 7 under par for the tournament. However, the rest of the field closed on the Englishman, making it anyone’s tournament to win with solid play on the weekend.
Challengers
Brian Harman matched his opening round 69 to climb to within a stroke of the lead at -6. Will Zalatoris is tied with Harman at -6 after shooting 4 under for the day. The golfer everyone will be watching Saturday is Jordan Spieth, whose 68 put him in contention at -5 and a tie for 4th with Marc Leishman who followed his even-par round on Thursday with a 5 under 67 today.

A total of 11 players are within 3 strokes of the lead. With Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, and Hideki Matsuyama in a group of 6 golfers tied at 4 under par for the tournament.
Bryson DeChambeau improved on his opening round 76 by flipping those numbers around to a 67 moving him into red numbers at -1 for the tournament.
Moving Day at The Masters
They call Saturday, “Moving Day” at The Masters. Rose better make a move early if he hopes to retain the 54 hole lead. The sparse group of spectators will be cheering for Spieth to return to his winning ways at Augusta.
Any number of golfers can poise themselves for a Sunday run at the Green Jacket with a score in the low 60s. Who will step up and who will fade away?
