Fenton Boys Win State Track and Field Division 1 Championship

The Fenton Boys Track and Field athletes used a complete team effort to secure their 1st ever Michigan Division 1 Championship Saturday at East Kentwood in Grand Rapids. They share the honor with Rockford High School as both schools finished with a final score of 34 points.

The competition was intense with Zeeland West finishing in 3rd with a score of 30 points, 4th was Ann Arbor Skyline putting up 28 on the scoreboard. Pinckney and Novi tied for 5th  with 25 points each.

 Strong Runs

Fenton Senior Sprinter Brandon Miller posted 2nd place finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events. After qualifying 4th in the 100, Miller cut his time 4/100s of a second to earn the runner-up spot with a time of 10.84 seconds. He finished a quarter of a second behind Udodi Onwuzurike of Brother Rice in both events.

Senior Noah Sage finished 7th in the 200-meter sprint, he put together a spectacular time of 47.41 to take 2nd in the 400-meter dash. Miller and Sage teamed with Juniors Donovan Miller, and Evan Koch to capture 2nd place in the Boys 4×200 Meter Relay. They finished 1/10th of a second behind the winning team from Zeeland West.

In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Sage said. “I definitely knew that we had potential to win the regional meet, but never did I think we were going to win the state meet. It’s absolutely crazy to think about. This is history for Fenton.”

Field Events

Fenton Junior Justin Miller tied for 9th in the High Jump with a height of 6.0 feet. Senior Orion Schwiderson earned a chance to compete in the Pole Vault event during the State Championships.
