Holly HS Graduates in Style at DTE Energy Music Theatre

Graduation ceremony part of the district’s commitment to providing a special sendoff to the Class of 2021.

Holly High School, Holly, MI — June 16, 2021

Earlier this month, members of the Holly High School Class of 2021 received their diplomas on the same stage graced by Dierks Bentley, the Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan, and Eddie Money at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston.

The June 3 outdoor event was made possible by the lifting of outdoor restrictions across Michigan, and the work of the Holly Area Schools administrative team and senior class to provide a first-of-its-kind sendoff to the Broncho Class of 2021.

Graduate Ethan Palm, who served on the Graduation Planning Committee, said the special event was a fitting end to a year of challenges, frustrations, and successes.

“I think everyone’s hopes were set high that we would have as normal a year as possible. As the calendar kept changing, and the regular schedule of school events passed, for me, the ultimate question was: ‘Will we ever be able to have a normal graduation ceremony?’” Palm recalled. “The No. 1 thing we all agreed on was we wanted to be there to watch our classmates graduate. Our four years at Holly High School were an incredible journey, and celebrating our accomplishments at DTE was a great culmination of everyone’s 13 years of education.”

Holly High School seniors were unable to enjoy many of the traditional senior rites of passage in a year otherwise marked by new learning platforms for both In-Person and Virtual, mask and social distancing mandates, and more to promote the health and safety of the entire community.

“We decided early on in the school year we were going to provide a safe and unique event to remember for our Broncho Class of 2021 and their families,” said Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent. “This was truly a proud day for our entire Broncho community, and I’d like to personally thank everyone who made it possible. I’d also like to congratulate the Class of 2021, who developed patience and resolve this past year that will serve them for a lifetime, whether they’re bound for college, the skilled trades, or headed straight for the workforce.”
