Lake Fenton Falls to Freeland in District Football Final

Lake Fenton High School, Fenton, MI — November 5, 2021

After a year that saw the Lake Fenton Blue Devils football team post a 9-1 record that included a victory over crosstown rival Fenton and a playoff win over the only team to beat them, the 2021 season finally came to an end.

The Freeland Falcons came to town and put a 37-6 defeat on the books to knock Lake Fenton out of the Michigan High School Athletic Association football playoffs.

The Blue Devils kept Freeland out of the end zone when they forced a fumble just short of the goal line in the first quarter. Lake Fenton could not advance the ball and had to punt out of their own end zone.

With a short field, the Falcons broke open the scoring with a TD and 2-point conversion to take an 8-0. Lake Fenton responded with a score of their own but trailed 16-6 at halftime. A combination of Freeland’s offense catching fire and the Blue Devils’ inability to convert scoring opportunities deep in Falcon territory resulted in the score widening to the final margin.

Two drives ended when Lake Fenton failed to pick up first downs on 4th and short opportunities. Two more drives found the end zone but in the hands of Falcon defenders who intercepted potential scoring passes.

What could have been turned into the reality that in some games you just come up short. A valiant effort by the Blue Devils solidified a fall campaign that resulted in a fine season for Lake Fenton Football.
