Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, FL — February 16, 2022
In what is becoming a tradition Hendrick Motorsports dominated pole qualifying for the Daytona 500. The organization takes special pride in setting its vehicles up to turn the fastest laps when the reward is starting on the front row for the Great American Race.
Kyle Larson(5), the defending NASCAR Cup Series Champion, will start P1 after posting a speed of 181.159 mph in 49.68 seconds around the 2.5-mile superspeedway. His teammate, Alex Bowman(48) will start beside him on the front row. Bowman was 0.031 seconds from capturing the honor himself.
Aric Almirola(10), in his final year full-time on the Cup Series Circut, was the fastest Ford Mustang with a speed of 180.527. Rookie Cup driver Harrison Burton(21) made the top 10, driving the Woods Brothers Mustang. With the exception of the front row, starting positions for the Daytona 500 will be determined in Thursday night’s two Bluegreen Vacation Duel races.
Of note, Jacques Villeneuve(27) the 1997 Formula One World Champion, took one of the two positions available to non-charter teams with a speed of 176.436. Villeneuve, a veteran of multiple forms of automobile racing, is 50-years old.
