New Leader on Day Two of the U.S.Open

Collin Morikawa has five wins on the PGA TOUR, two of those victories have come in Major Championships. Morikawa’s resume includes a win in the 2020 PGA Championship and another in the 2021 (British) Open Championship. He can add a third jewel to his quest for professional golf’s version of the career grand slam if he puts two more rounds together like today’s masterful performance at the U.S. Open.

Morikawa shot a four-under-par 66 to go with his opening round 69 to sit atop the day two leaderboard at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. He is tied with Open qualifier Joel Dahmen who followed his day one score of 67 with a solid 68 to match Morikawa’s total of 135 at the mid-point of the 2022 Championship.

The Leaderboard for the 122nd U.S. Open

If the 25-year-old phenom, often compared to Tiger Woods, earns his third major win it won’t come easy as the leaderboard is crowded at the top. Five golfers are tied for third at four-under-par included in the group are Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy. Scottie Scheffler is one of another group of five tied for eighth at three-under.

Day one leader, Adam Hadwin dropped two strokes to par and sits at minus-two. Notables Xander Schauffele, Keegan Bradley, and Will Zalatoris are another stroke back. Travis Vick is currently the low amateur at one-under-par. Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama joined five other players at even par through two rounds.

The Cut Line

The cut fell at four-over-par, with Sergio Garcia just missing out on the weekend after posting scores of 74-70. James Piot (+4), Kevin Na and Tony Finau (+5), Louis Oosthuizen (+6), and Phil Mickelson (+11) were other familiar names heading home after Friday’s round.
