Fenton, MI — May 13, 2023

The Cause & Affect Gallery in Fenton is doing an art exhibit called “Fallen Heroes” from May 27 – July 8, 2023.  The gallery will honor fallen heroes by working with Gold Star families.

The families have shared photographs and stories of their loved ones with the gallery.  These items were delivered to an artist along with the materials needed to complete a portrait of that hero.

Additionally, two veterans are doing soundscapes of the heroes’ stories to coincide with the exhibit.  There are a number of heroes that are being honored from the World War II era through 2022, with one hero being a Medal of Honor recipient.  At the end of the exhibit, the families will be gifted the portraits.  However, it is the hope of the gallery that the exhibit will travel to other locations throughout the state as well.

Gallery owner, Annie Anglim, is part of a Gold Star family herself.  She knows the pain that is felt each Memorial Day when people treat the day as just an extended weekend, a time to party, etc.  “Hearing someone wish a Gold Star family member a happy Memorial Day cuts deeply.  This is not a happy day for these families.  It is a day for everyone to honor and respect the individuals who gave the ultimate sacrifice while in service to their country.  When we hear the names of fallen heroes, we don’t always know the faces, the families, and their stories.  We hope that this exhibit will let people know what Memorial Day is truly about.”

The exhibit will open on May 27th.  The gallery address is 126 N Leroy St, Fenton, MI 48430. There is a private viewing of the exhibit from 5-6:00 pm for the families and their friends.  The opening reception for the public is from 6-8:00 pm.  For further information, you may contact Annie Anglim at either causeandaffectgallery@gmail.com or (810) 354-8214.
