New Leaders at the PGA Championship After Round Two

The weather was a bit more cooperative today at Oak Hill, as Round One was completed early, and the Second Round finished out as well. We now know who is playing through the weekend and who is heading home.

New Leaders

Viktor Hovland shot 68 yesterday and 67 today for a two-day total of 135, good for a total of five-under-par and a share of the lead. Scottie Scheffler and Corey Conners went 67 and 68 to match Hovland’s score and share his position atop the leaderboard.

Yesterday’s leader, Bryson DeChambeau, dropped a stroke to par and shares fourth place with Justin Suh at four under. Brooks Koepka rebounded from a day one 72 to post a 66 on Friday. He sits tied with Callum Tarren in sixth place at two under par.

Taylor Pendrith and Justin Rose are the only other golfers in red numbers, they combined scores of 70 and 69 on different days to trail the leaders by four strokes at one under.

Notables

Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley are even par for the tournament. Collin Morikawa and Dustin Johnson (+1), as well as Tommy Fleetwood, Hideki Matsuyama, and Patrick Reed (+3), are within striking distance. But will have to make a move up the board on Saturday.

Likely Out of Contention

Jon Rahm made the cut by shooting a 68 to improve on his first-day score of 76, he sits nine strokes off the lead. Cameron Smith and Xander Schauffele join Rahm in a tie for the 48th position.

Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Tony Finau just squeaked by surviving the cut at five over par.

Long Gone

Ricky Fowler, Jordan Smith, Matt Kuchar, and Jason Day are a few of the players heading home early.

Koepka’s 66 was the low round of the day, tying Dechambeau’s score from Thursday as the low round of the tournament. The dubious honor of the highest scores of the day went to Josh Speight and Shaun Micheel each with an 82, ouch. Thursday’s high man with an 85, Gabe Reynolds, improved 10 strokes overnight. However, his 75 still had him missing the cut by 15 strokes. Dead last, Chris Sanger, 25 over (84,81).
