Oak Hill Country Club, Rochester, NY — May 18, 2023
The 105th edition of the PGA Championship teed off today from Oak Hill Country Club, just outside of Rochester, NY. Unfortunately, the first round did not finish today. Play was delayed this morning for two hours due to heavy frost. Darkness caused a suspension of the first round with players still on the course.
Bryson DeChambeau is the leader in the clubhouse after he shot a four-under-par round of 66. Six birdies and two bogeys got DeChambeau to that number.
Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners, and Dustin Johnson also completed play and sit one shot back a three under after 18 holes.
Here is where it gets confusing. Eric Cole is five-under-par through 14 holes. After starting on the back nine of the course, he has holes six through nine yet to play. So, he could be the leader, but we won’t know until play resumes tomorrow morning at seven am.
A total of 30 golfers will have to set an early alarm to complete their first round. However, Cole is the only one with a realistic chance to sit atop the leaderboard when the first round is finally complete.
Here are DeChambeau’s highlights from Round One, and we will have to wait until tomorrow to update the leaderboard.
