Holly Area Schools has welcomed Joel Smith as Holly High School’s new principal. The district’s Board of Education made it official at Monday’s board meeting, voting unanimously to hire Smith to continue the school’s commitment to preparing all Bronchos for success and the jobs of tomorrow.
“We are thrilled to welcome Joel to our Broncho family as Holly High School principal,” said Scott Roper, Holly Area Schools superintendent. “Joel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help us maintain our commitment to helping all Bronchos achieve and succeed in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. He truly represents what #BronchoPride is all about.”
“On behalf of the Holly Area Schools Board of Education, I’d like to welcome Joel and his family to our Broncho community,” said Leigh Jackson, school board president. “The board chose Joel after a lengthy process involving many highly qualified candidates, and I have no doubt his stellar background and commitment to students will lead Holly High School well into the future.”
Smith was previously a middle school English Language Arts teacher at Linden Middle School, an assistant principal at Hastings High School, and an elementary school principal, high school principal, and director of curriculum, instruction, and assessment at Maple Valley Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree in education in English and psychology, a master’s degree in teaching from Marygrove College, and an education specialist degree from the University of Michigan-Flint.
“I am thrilled to join such a dedicated staff and community that make Holly High School a great place for students to learn and grow,” Smith said. “At Holly High School, my goal is to build upon and continue the school’s existing culture of excellence and achievement and to work collaboratively with our exceptional staff to provide an enriching educational experience for all students.”
