Kate Brody, Local Teen, Gets Exemption to Professional Golf Tournament

Harris, MI — June 22, 2023

Kate Brody, the two-time Michigan High School Women’s State Golf Champion, just graduated from Grand Blanc High School. This fall, she is on her way to the University of Wisconsin with a golf scholarship. Before she heads to Madison, she has a rare opportunity to play in a professional golf tournament.

The Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, Michigan, is hosting the LPGA Epson Tour’s Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass this weekend, June 23-25, 2023. Kate has been offered an exemption to play.

Family Support

Kate graciously sat down with The Lasco Press during last year’s Ally Challenge at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club. We discussed her high school career, golf accomplishments, goals, and family.

Kate’s parents, Doug and Jenn Brody, own and operate the golf pro shop at Warwick Hills. Mom, Jennifer (Kangas) Brody, played on the Epson Tour and also as LPGA Tour Professional. Jenn will serve as Kate’s caddie during the Island Resort Championship

Certainly, good genes, growing up in a golf environment, unlimited opportunities to practice and play have been a benefit to Kate’s progression in the sport. However, most of all, she has a good head on her shoulders, knows exactly what she wants, and has charted a path that will help her accomplish her goals.

Expect Kate to do well in the event. We will report back on her progress this weekend and continue to follow the career of this local favorite.
