Greenfield Road, Southfield, MI — August 10, 2023
One of the busiest roads in Oakland County(18,400 vehicles per day) is set to close for a month. During a significant portion of that time, there will be no work going on behind the orange barrels blocking the roadway. Knowing why might ease some of your pain and frustration. If you travel that area during your commute, here is the scoop.
The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) expects to close Greenfield Road, 10 Mile Road to 9 Mile Road in Southfield for concrete repairs from Monday, Aug. 14, through late September.
During the closure, business access will be maintained, and northbound Greenfield Road will remain open to traffic.
The detour route for southbound Greenfield Road is 10 Mile Road to Coolidge Highway to 9 Mile Road, and back to Greenfield Road.
Cipparrone Contracting Inc. of Southfield is doing the work. This section of southbound Greenfield Road carries approximately 18,400 vehicles daily.
Once the new concrete is poured, it must cure and cannot be driven on while it is curing. During the curing phase, no workers will be present, and the road may appear complete, but it can only be opened to traffic once the concrete is finished curing and gains the necessary strength to support the traffic.

Hopefully, that may help your road rage if you get stuck in the mess.
