They finally completed Round One at the Masters. Round Two is also in the books, the cut determined, and the top 50 players plus ties are on to moving day Saturday.

Thursday’s leaders in the clubhouse, Bryson DeChambeau (-7) and Scottie Scheffler (-6) held on. Max Homa and Nicolai Hojgaard both shot 67 to tie for third at five-under-par when they completed their first round Friday Morning.

All 89 golfers completed play in Round Two, so the leaderboard will have no holes to fill after today’s session.

In the first round, 26 players scored in red numbers. On Day Two, only eight players accomplished sub-par rounds. Three professionals sit atop the leaderboard, all got there in different fashions.

DeChambeau combined four bogeys and three birdies to drop a stroke of his Day One lead. However, his six-under-par total retained a share of the lead. Scheffler’s opening round was bogey-free, but he carded three of them today. Three birdies evened his round, and the six-under score from Thursday was enough to share the lead. Two birdies early in his round shot Max Homa to the top of the leaderboard. Making 15 pars kept him there even though a single bogey cost him the outright lead.

The trio holds a two-stroke lead over Nicolai Hojgaard. Those two strokes came from bogeys on 17 and 18 to close out his day.

Tiger Woods made history. His rounds of 73 and 72 assured him of making the cut for the 24th time at Augusta National, a new record. It took a score of six over par to qualify for the final two days of the tournament.

Some names you might not have expected to see on the cut list. Justin Thomas, Zach Johnson, Wyndham Clark, and Sergio Garcia all missed by a single stroke. Viktor Hovland shot 71 Thursday and 81 Friday to take himself out of the weekend. Jordan Spieth, Gary Woodland, and Dustin Johnson won’t be seen this weekend either.

Spieth missed the cut by three strokes. While finishing his first round on Friday morning, he lost four strokes on the par five 15th hole when he recorded a quadruple bogey nine.

Rory McIlroy’s quest for a career grand slam is on life support this year. He is tied for 35th, at four-over-par and ten strokes out of the lead. There are 11 players within five shots of the lead, so moving day could be quite dramatic.
