Jett Lawrence and Haiden Deegan Dominate Pro Motocross at Southwick

The Wick, Southwick, MA — June 28, 2025

Round Five of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship visits “The Wick 338” at Southwick, Massachusetts. No track exhibits the variety of the Pro Motocross Championship quite like The Wick 338. This is the most famous sandbox in American motocross, and it has provided some of the most memorable moments in the history of the sport thanks to its unique racing surface. Everything about Southwick is different, from the look, to the feel, and even the sound. But more than anything, the results can be some of the most unpredictable you’ll find all season.

With its deceptively hard base, The Wick 338 is different than most sand tracks, and mastering it can be a true challenge. That’s why it’s not unusual to see locals come to the National and make an impact. This track has the ability to breed a true local advantage unlike any other, and it’s just one of the many elements that makes this such an iconic event.

This season will mark the 44th running of Pro Motocross at The Wick, which is one of the sport’s most storied venues as the premier and longest running sand track in the U.S. The track was not on the schedule from 1983-1985, 2014-2015, and in 2020. Only twice has the overall winner not scored at least one moto win – Jeff Ward (2-3 in 1988) & Brett Metcalfe (3-2 in 2011).

Two Weeks Ago at High Point

High Point was a return to normal, in a sense. Jett Lawrence continues to dominate. Haiden Deegan failed to take the overall at Thunder Valley for the first time this season. However, he was back on top at High Point.

450 CC

Jett Lawrence scored his 19th career Premier Class victory with a 1-3 effort at High Point. It was his 59th career SMX League victory (10th all-time) & 78th career SMX League podium. It marks the fourth straight season in which Honda has earned 4+ victories, a first for the brand, which places them alongside Kawasaki (2017-2020) as the only other OEM to achieve this feat.

Hunter Lawrence captured his 11th podium in his 15th 450 Class start, including his seventh runner-up result. Only Davi Millsaps, Aaron Plessinger, and Andrew Short have more 450 Class podiums without a win. Hunter is the only athlete in premier class history with a 100% top 5 finishing percentage among athletes with more than one career start. Ricky Carmichael is second on the list at 97.7% (86/88).

Eli Tomac claimed his 75th career 450 Class podium with a 5-1 day at High Point. It was his milestone 100th career Pro Motocross podium and adds to his SMX League* record of 224 career podiums. He sits second in the point standings, 28 points behind Jett Lawrence.

Aaron Plessinger finished 4th overall, his 28th career top 5 finish moves him into the top 30 all-time. He has 4 straight top 5 finishes to open a season for the first time in his 450 Class career.

250 CC

Haiden Deegan earned his landmark 10th career win, tying him for 15th all-time with Mike Kiedrowski and Ron Lechien. Deegan became the 40th athlete in history with 20 career SMX League wins, tying Adam Cianciarulo, Jimmy Weinert, and Steve Lamson.

Tom Vialle captured his 11th podium in 26 career starts with a runner-up finish. He sits fifth in the point standings entering Southwick, which is 1 of the 2 tracks he’s been triumphant during his Pro MX career. Earned his 50th SMX League top 10 finish in 61 starts.

Levi Kitchen extended his podium streak to 3 in-a-row following a 2-6 effort. It signifies his 12th career Pro MX podium in 39 starts and his 25th SMX League podium in 69 starts.

Chance Hymas will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury suffered on the last lap at High Point.

450MX Heat #1

The 450MX riders hit the track first to showcase the premier class on NBC Television.

The Lawrence brothers raced to the holeshot line, with Jett pulling out in front. Hunter Lawrence(96), Aaron Plessinger(7), and Cooper Webb(2) trailed. Eli Tomac(3) started in the seventh position. Jett Lawrence(18) quickly built a three-second interval over Hunter as Plessinger sat in third, ready to strike.

Five minutes into the 30-minute Moto, Jett doubled the lead interval over his brother.

As the moto reached the halfway point of the timed portion of the race, the top three remained the same, with Jett holding a 10-second lead over Hunter. Webb dropped back to sixth, Jorge Prado(7) ran fourth, and Tomac sat fifth.

The battle for the final podium spot heated up when both Prado and Tomac worked their way past Plessinger and pulled away to settle the third spot between the two riders.

With eight minutes to go, Tomac was closing on Prado. The Spaniard was feeling the heat and caved to the pressure, going down in a corner. Tomac took over third, and Plessinger moved back up to fourth before Prado could get back aboard his bike.

The intervals grew between the top five riders, and they finished in the order they were running.

250MX Moto #1

Haiden Deegan(1) did not hesitate at the start, grabbing the holeshot and quickly establishing a two-second advantage over Tom Vialle(18) and Michael Mosiman(93) early in the moto. Vialle went down shortly after the start and dropped out of the top ten.

Levi Kitchen(47) moved up to take the third position at the five-minute mark. Meanwhile, at the front, Deegan built an eight-second lead on Mosiman.

Deegan completely dominated the entire moto, riding out to a 20-second lead as the clock ticked down. Kitchen hung with Mosiman and put some pressure on the second-place rider late in the race. However, as they rode through lappers, Mosiman pulled away. Vialle recovered from his early fall to move up to fourth.

Unfortunately, Mosiman could not maintain the position, allowing Kitchen and Vialle to pass on the last lap.
Jo Shimoda was never in contention after a pile-up at the start. He wound up 10th.

450MX Moto #2

Second moto, same story. Jett Lawrence again commands the start and begins to move away from the field. Jorge Prado outran Hunter Lawrence for second, and Eli Tomac responded early to knock Hunter back to fourth. Aaron Plessinger outdueled Justin Barcia(51) for the fifth spot.

With ten minutes off the clock, Jett had built a seven-second lead at the front. The next four riders held their positions, with the best battle between Tomac in third and Hunter Lawrence in fourth.

At the mid-point of the timed portion of the moto, Hunter had moved around Tomac and began to close on Prado, who dropped 12.5 seconds behind the leader.

Prado crashed and came off the bike, dropping him four positions and out of contention for a podium finish. Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, and Eli Tomac hold those positions with ten minutes to go. Plessinger was in fourth, 18 seconds behind Tomac.

Plessinger slipped on the sand and went down. RJ Hampshire(24), Prado, and Justin Cooper(32) ran by as AP slipped to seventh.

The podium remained secure as Tomac held a 28-second advantage over Hampshire in fourth place.

The 450MX overall was easy to determine as Jett went 1-1, Hunter went 2-2, and Tomac 3-3.

Haiden Deegan rode to the front from the gate drop again. Levi Kitchen, Jalek Swoll(22), Jo Shimoda, and Tom Vialle were the chasers.

During the first ten minutes, Shimoda and Vialle moved past Swoll. Deegan blew open the lead interval to over six seconds.

Shimoda and Vialle continued to advance, knocking Kitchen off the podium. Neither could cut into Deegan’s margin, which ballooned to 10 seconds.

Deegan took the overall with his dominate 1-1 finishes. Vialle went 3-3 just edging out Kitchen 2-4 for he second spot based on his better finish in the second moto. Shimoda finished fourth overall with his 10th place result in the first moto being his downfall.
