McDonald’s® has been serving burgers in California since 1940. Some 15 years before Ray Kroc bought and expanded the brand nationwide. Burger King® joined the party in 1954, with its first locations in Florida. Wendy’s® was a latecomer, emerging in 1969 as The Ohio Burger Chain’s first location opened in Columbus. These guys were mere imitations of the original burger joint. Halo Burger® began selling “deluxe hamburgers” from its “boxcar-style wagon on Harrison St. in Downtown Flint” in 1923.

Halo Burger’s website tells the story.

“There, we created the world’s first “deluxe” hamburger, made with 100% fresh, never-frozen beef, pressed on a searing hot grill to give it just the right amount of char. Then we top it with fresh-cut tomatoes, lettuce, and mayonnaise. That’s one deluxe burger!
Now we serve our burgers with “The Works”, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard & mayonnaise. This is the burger you used to get in your backyard when your parents had 4th of July parties. It’s big, it’s juicy, and it’s topped with hand-cut toppings between a fresh-baked bun. Halo Burger not only serves up award winning burgers, we also employ about 150 people in Mid-Michigan! Born and raised in Michigan, we value our traditions and are committed to our Midwestern legacy. Above and beyond all else, we’re in the business of people and proud to be active members within our community. And remember,  “seven days without a halo burger makes one weak!”

Over the years the menu has expanded with some classic midwestern favorites. The “world-famous” Olive Burger.

Add some Wisconsin Cheese Curds and another Michigan original, a tall glass of Detroit’s classic Vernors® Ginger Ale pop (never soda). Another favorite combo is a Koegel Hot Dog, Flint style of course, with a refreshing Boston Cooler. How about trying their latest addition, a delicious raspberry shake?

Does the image of the Halo Cow spark memories of the Heavenly Flavors? A 102nd anniversary is a good time to stop in and celebrate your favorites with the Halo Burger crew.
