The Michigan Wolverines have dominated opponents throughout the NCAA Basketball Championship Tournament as they marched to the title game. However, Monday night, they had to win ugly. On a night when their three-point shooting efforts produced only two baskets in 15 attempts, Michigan still found a way to win.
UConn used a physical defensive effort to keep the game close in the first half, with Michigan only up by four, 33-29 at the break. The Wolverines opened up an 11-point advantage twice in the second half, but the Huskies continued to hack and wack on every shot attempt. UConn sent Michigan to the free-throw line for 28 shots over the course of the evening, and Michigan made 25 of them. Owning the most important stat of the night.
UConn cut the lead to just four points and had possession of the ball in the closing minutes of the game. But, Michigan proved they could play defense too. They stymied UConn attempt at a comeback while sealing the Wolverines second National Championship in basketball.
