Jett Lawrence Regains Points Lead from Brother Hunter at The Wick 338 Pro Motocross

Southwick National, Southwick, MA — July 11, 2026

The Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, will cross the halfway threshold today with the sixth race of the outdoor campaign and Round 23 of the Monster Energy SMX World Championship. What awaits is the most grueling challenge of the summer in the legendary sands of Western Massachusetts’ The Wick 338, which will reach the 50-year milestone of racing in Southwick. The annual summer spectacle is woven into the fabric of the community and has been strengthened through the multi-year partnership with local business Crestview Construction, which will return with title support of the Crestview Construction Southwick National, Saturday, July 11.

This pillar event of the Pro Motocross Championship has attracted the finest sand specialists from around the world throughout its existence and that will continue with another gifted group of guest riders this weekend.”

The first Southwick National was held in 1976, during the budding years of the Pro Motocross Championship, and The Wick 338 has endured through the sport’s ongoing evolution to remain a central tenet of American motocross’s most storied and celebrated events. This year will mark the 45th running of the race, which boasts the sport’s most intimate setting behind American Legion Post 338, for which the track bears its name, an elementary school, and a high school. It’s the town of Southwick’s hidden gem that becomes motocross’ global epicenter every summer, with an ever-changing racing surface that athletes from all over the world hope to try and tame.

250MX Moto #1

Two of the top contenders in the 250MX class will be missing from the main events today at Southwick. Nick Romano and Jo Shimoda will be sitting out after suffering injuries in practice and qualifying earlier in the day. Shimoda, the points leader, suffered a broken collarbone and will be further evaluated next week. It is the kind of injury that could sideline him for multiple weeks. The Coenen brothers are back from Europe to test the best riders in the world. Sacha Coenen(109) and Cole Davies(37) sprinted out of the starting gate and raced side-by-side to the holeshot line. Davies earned the honor, but it was Coenen pulling away on the opening lap. Davies could not keep pace with Coenen, and halfway through the timed portion of the moto, he went down. Davies had trouble restarting his bike and dropped from second place to 10th. Ryder DiFrancesco(34) moved to second. However, the rider on the move was Levi Kitchen(47). After a start in ninth, Kitchen worked his way forward to take second away from Ryder D. after 13 of the 17 laps. Chance Hymas(29) and Julien Beaumer(13) battled for fourth and fifth. Out front, Coenen rode away to a dominating win with a 30+ second interval over Kitchen.

DiFrancesco held onto the final podium spot. Davies finished in the seventh position. With Shimoda out, Kitchen took over the points lead.

450MX Moto#1

Lucas Coenen(104) was the fastest qualifier in the 450MX class. Can he run with the Lawrence Brothers? That is the question the fans are eagerly awaiting an answer to. Oh, and did we mention the Coenen twins are from Belgium? The country that eliminated the United States from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The answer came early as Lucas went down in the first corner and started the moto in 39th position. Jett Lawrence(1) and Hunter Lawrence(96) raced to the holeshot line with Jett edging out his brother for the fastest start.

Haiden Deegan (38) ran third, then there was a large gap back to Dylan Ferrandis in fourth and RJ Hampshire in fifth. Five minutes into the moto, Lucas Coenen had advanced into the top 10, 26.5 seconds behind Jett Lawrence in 1st. As the moto reached the halfway point of the timed portion, Hunter was closing on Jett with the interval at 1.3 seconds. Deegan was another four seconds back in third. Jorge Prado(26) and Coenen ran fourth and fifth, 25+ seconds behind the leader.

During the final 10 minutes, Jett stretched out the gap between him and his brother Hunter to five seconds. Deegan also faded, 12 seconds behind the leader. Coenen recovered to the fourth position but trailed Jett by 36 seconds. With under five minutes to go, Jett went down, and Hunter advanced into the lead. Coenen’s bike locked up and threw him off. Lucas walked off the track but dropped to the ground, clearly shaken. After resting for a minute and making sure there was no additional damage done in the crash, Coenen got up and walked off the course. Christian Craig(28) crashed at the bottom of a jump, and the red flag was displayed with one lap to go to assist Craig off the track. The race was declared official, and the results frozen at that point.

250MX Moto #2

Cole Davies got a great start out of the gate and led early with Levi Kitchen right behind. Ryder DiFrancesco ran in the third spot. Sacha Coenen got pinched on the starting corner and came out behind the leaders. Davies pulled away immediately as Coenen moved to the second spot 3.6 seconds behind the leader.

Ryder D. crashed and dropped to the rear of the field. Kitchen moved to third with Chance Hymas and Nate Thrasher(25) keeping pace. Coenen erased the interval as the moto reached 20 minutes to go. After getting to the rear wheel of the leader, they almost collided. Coenen lost his momentum and dropped back a few seconds. At the halfway point of the moto, Kitchen, Hymas, and Thrasher were over 20 seconds in arrears. Coenen hung one second behind the leader, looking for a spot to make the pass. When the opportunity came, Sacha blew past Davies and quickly built a five-second advantage over the former leader. Kayden Minear(99) moved into the fourth and began to challenge Kitchen for the final podium spot.

Minear made the pass on Kitchen, which will cost Levi a share of the points lead as Davies remains solidly in second. However, with three minutes remaining, Coenen crashed, came off the bike, and lost his goggles. He had a huge lead on Davies, and Coenen was able to remount his bike and still maintain the lead. As the clock ran out, Coenen was able to stretch out the interval to five seconds and hold on for the win. Minear, Kitchen, and Beaumer rounded out the top five. Apparently, Sacha Coenen injured himself when he crashed late in the moto. He left the course holding his right shoulder.

450MX Moto #2

Lucas Coenen opted out of the second 450MX moto to prevent injury after taking a hard fall in the first moto. Hunter Lawrence walked away with the holeshot win. However, it was Haiden Deegan running second ahead of Jett Lawrence in third.

Jorge Prado ran fourth with Garrett Marchbanks(36) in fifth. An interval of 1.5 seconds separates first and second, the same advantage exists between second and third. Nine minutes into the moto, Jett passed Deegan and quickly built a two-second advantage between second and third.

Hunter had stretched out the time difference between first and second to over two seconds. With under 10 minutes to go, the two leaders worked their way through lapped traffic, and Jett closed to within a second and a half of his older brother. At the five-minute mark, Hunter crashed over the handlebars of his bike. Jett, Deegan, and Prado passed the points leader, giving the top spot of the race to Jett and the points back by a single point.

Jett Lawrence, Haiden Deegan, and Jorge Prado own the podium. Hunter finished fourth but outpointed Deegan for second overall.

450MX: Jett Lawrence’s 2-1 effort resulted in his third win of the season and the 27th victory of his career, which moved him into a tie with AMA Hall of Famer Bob Hannah on the all-time wins list. It also ended Jett’s longest winless streak in the premier class outdoors at two races. Despite his misfortune in the second moto, Hunter Lawrence secured a runner-up finish with 1-4 finishes, which ended the two-race win streak he brought into Southwick. It’s the 23rd overall podium of his premier class career outdoors. Deegan earned the third podium finish of his rookie campaign in third (3-2) with his highest single-event points total of the season. With the win, Jett Lawrence reclaimed the lead in the championship standings for the second time this season. Just a single point separates him from Hunter.

250MX: Coenen became the season’s third different first-time winner and the 96th different rider to claim victory in the history of the 250SMX Class in Pro Motocross. However, he suffered an injury in the second moto crash and fought through the pain to complete the winning effort. Kitchen grabbed his third podium finish of the season (2-4) and ended a two-race absence from the top three overall. Davies earned a third-straight podium result in third (7-2), extending a hot streak that started on the heels of a season-worst finish at Thunder Valley. With Shimoda’s absence, Davies has taken control of the points lead for the first time and will become the fourth different rider to carry the red plate this season. He holds a two-point lead over Kitchen and a 33-point lead over Shimoda, who dropped from first to third.
