Fenton, MI — August 12, 2026
If you have school-age students at home, you likely already know this. For the rest of us, it is a gentle reminder that those big yellow buses will start appearing on local roadways next week.
Michigan motorists are required to observe the following safety protocols regarding School Bus operation.
- Flashing yellow lights: Slow down, as the bus is preparing to stop.
- Flashing red lights: Stop at least 20 feet away from the bus in all directions (unless on a divided highway going the opposite way).
- Be alert: Watch for children walking near parked cars, playing near bus stops, or crossing the street.
Fenton High School’s first day of school is Wednesday, August 19. It will be a little unusual. Freshmen will start the day at 8 a.m. by themselves, following a shortened schedule to visit all of their classes in a more introductory manner. Sophomore, juniors, and seniors will arrive later and join the freshmen and all students will then follow a 10 a.m. Late Start schedule.
The first day of school for Lake Fenton High School for the 2026–2027 academic year is Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Slow Down, Be Safe, and Give them Kids a Brake!
