On Friday, in WMX Moto #1, Charli Cannon(7) grabbed the holeshot and rode away to a commanding lead. Lachlan Turner(1) had her normal average start but worked her way up to second until she made a mistake and rode off the course.

Turner recovered but had difficulty later in the race when she stalled the bike and took a few moments to restart it. Spaniard Daniela Gullen(255) finished second, and youngster Mayla Herrick(23) took the final podium spot. Turner finished fifth and still holds the championship lead by 13 points. Lala will win the WMX title with a finish of 10th or better regardless of where Cannon finishes today.

Chance Hymas(29), Julien Beaumer(13), and Cole Davies(37) raced to the holeshot line with Beaumer earning the honor and pulling away on lap one.

Levi Kitchen(47) started outside of the top ten and had trouble on the first lap, crashing and falling to 35th. Should Kitchen finish 25th or worse, Davies can clinch the title with a podium finish in this moto. Hymas got cross-rutted and went down, forfeiting the lead to Beaumer.

Davies moved up to second and was content to ride up front without taking chances. Landen Gordon(180) took over third with Hymas falling to the fourth spot. Kitchen had an issue with his bike and went down just past the 20-minute-to-go mark on the clock. Levi was able to refire the bike but had to take it to the paddock because it was not competitive. Effectively handing the title to Davies. Out front, Beaumer pulled away from Davies and Hymas moved past Gordon for the final podium spot. With Davies riding the track in cruise control, Hymas moved past and began to chase down Beaumer. Hymas trailed Beaumer by six seconds with under five minutes to go in the moto. As the clock ran out, Hymas regained the lead and pulled away from Beaumer in second, but went down on the final lap. In third, Cole Davies, the 19-year-old from Waitoki, New Zealand, clinched his second championship of the year after winning the 250CC Class Eastern Title in Supercross.

Hunter Lawrence(96) got off to a great start, taking the holeshot, but it was Haiden Deegan(38) taking the early lead. On lap one, Deegan lost traction with the rear wheel sliding out from underneath him. He went down, and Hunter crashed into him. Jett Lawrence(1) had a horrible start back in 21st. Jett passed his brother as Hunter struggled to get his bike untangled from Deegan’s motorcycle. Jorge Prado(26) took the lead and pulled away from RJ Hampshire(24) and Cooper Webb(2).

Deegan had bike trouble and dropped to the rear of the pack in 40th, just ahead of Hunter in 39th. It took a lap for both riders to get their bikes back up to speed. Jett was mired in 16th and not riding to the front as expected. It seemed that Jett was waiting for his brother to catch up so they could settle the matter between themselves. At the halfway point of the race, they were tied for the championship, Jett in 14th and Hunter in 15th.

While Jett’s bike seemed to be performing properly, speculation centered on his emotional or physical health. Deegan ran 20th and was in danger of losing his third position in the championship standings to Prado. Hunter continued to advance and was up to ninth with four minutes to go. Jett had only moved up to 13th and trailed his brother in the championship standings by four points. Prado finished off his ride with his first moto win in the 450MX class. Hampshire finished second. Mikkel Haarup was riding third for almost the whole moto; he crashed just before the finish line, gifting the final podium spot to Cooper Webb. Post-race, Jett Lawrence jumped off his bike and did not ride it back to the Honda trailer. As he hopped onto a golf cart for a ride, Jett grabbed his ankle as if it was bothering him during the race. Hunter finished eighth, Jett wound up 11th, and Haiden Deegan ended up 16th. The Honda HRC Progressive team reported that Jett Lawrence hyperextended his previously injured right ankle during the first moto. His status regarding Moto #2 was unknown at the time.

Cannon took the holeshot in Moto #2, but Turner took the early lead until she fell on lap one and dropped to 17th. Once back on her bike, Turner began her charge back to the front. Herrick hung with Cannon and pressured Charli for the lead, trailing by less than one second late in the race. Turner kept her cool and advanced to fifth, putting her solidly in control of the title race. Cannon held on for the win, building the gap over Herrick in second. Gullen took third and Turner took fourth. This was the first time in her professional career that Turner failed to make the podium. However, she won her third consecutive WMX title. The margin of victory was closer than expected; a mere six points separated the top two riders.

With the title already decided it is unlikely Cole Davies will push it too hard in the second moto. An injury at this point would be a huge disappointment heading into the SMX Playoffs that begin in two weeks. Levi Kitchen did not make it to the starting gate. Ending his season in an extremely disappointing fashion. Davies got a big jump at the gate drop and just missed the holeshot as Landen Gordon ran first across the line. Davies took the early lead and held it as the pack sorted itself out behind him. As the competition heated up Davies backed off and did not fight for positions as riders ascended to the front. Julien Beaumer, Chance Hymas, and Ryder DiFrancesco(34) took the podium positions. Davies finished 13th, but collected the series championship trophy to the cheers of the crowd at Ironman.

The overall event win went to Julien Beaumer 2-1 by virtue of the tiebreaker, winning the second moto. Chance Hymas 1-2 finished second. Kitchen’s misfortunes cost him second place in the championship standings. Julien Beaumer captured the position by just five points.

Jett Lawrence made it to the starting gate for the start of Moto #2. If he can ride competitively remains to be seen. His ankle is heavily taped to provide added support. Jorge Prado earned the holeshot with Hunter Lawrence and Jett Lawrence in hot pursuit. Haiden Deegan ran third and found himself in a battle with Jett right from lap one. Deegan took the third spot away from Jett and began to close on Hunter. Five minutes in, Hunter felt the pressure from Deegan and lost the rear wheel at the top of a hill, Hunter was able to save the bike but lost the position to Danger Boy. Hunter held a four-second advantage over his younger brother Jett and a six-point gap in the championship standings. Realistically, Jett needs to win the race to have a shot of passing Hunter for the championship. That dream is fading fast as Jett trails the leader, Prado, by 14 seconds with 20 minutes remaining in the timed portion of the moto. Hunter, in third place, was four seconds up on Jett. Prado continued to increase the interval out front with Deegan over 10 seconds ahead in third. Hunter went down at the midpoint of the race. He recovered quickly and only dropped a position behind Jett. Hunter still holds a two-point lead in the championship over Jett and the tie breaker goes to Hunter with the most victories of the year in the Pro Motocross season. With five minutes left, the intervals fluctuated up and down but remained mostly static overall. The riders held their positions to the checkered flag, and Hunter Lawrence finally captured a championship after so many close calls that ended in disappointment.

Jorge Prado took the overall event win with his 1-1 finishes. Hunter’s final championship margin of victory was 2-points over Jett. Haiden Deegan did just enough to hold onto 3rd in the championship standings by a mere 3 points over Jorge Prado.

Ironman Recap

450MX:  Jorge Prado’s dominant afternoon served as the culmination of a season of progression, with an emphatic 1-1 performance for his maiden U.S. victory in his 22nd start. Hampshire’s quiet but consistent day landed him on the overall podium for the second time in his career (2-6), equaling the runner-up effort he earned at Ironman last season. Cooper Webb made a long-awaited return to the overall podium in third (3-8), landing inside the top three for the first time since the 2023 season in what was his final full-time start in Pro Motocross. Hunter Lawrence finished just off the podium in fourth (8-4), which secured the title over Jett Lawrence, who finished sixth (11-3), by a slim margin of two points. After winning every moto and overall leading into Ironman, it was the first time neither Lawrence finished on the podium. The Lawrences became the first siblings in history to win premier class championships, as Hunter became the 29th different series titleholder. He’ll also enter the SMX World Championship postseason at the top seed.

250MX:

Julien Beaumer’s emphatic performance in the final moto put him atop the overall standings with 2-1 finishes and the second win of the season and his career. The win also moved him into second in the championship standings. Chance Hymas equaled Beaumer’s results with a 1-2 effort but lost out on the second moto tiebreaker. It capped off a torrid second half for the Honda rider, with five straight podium finishes to end the season. Ryder DiFrancesco completed the best season of his career with his third podium finish (7-3). Cole Davies ended up seventh overall (3-13) in his championship-winning performance, finishing 38 points ahead of Beaumer in the final standings. At the same time, Levi Kitchen dropped into a tie with Hymas for third. In addition to his distinction as the first AMA National Champion from New Zealand, Davies became the third-youngest rider to win a 250SMX Class title in Supercross and Pro Motocross in the same season. He’s the 35th different champion in 250SMX Class history and also secured the top seed in the SMX World Championship postseason.
