Unadilla National, New Berlin, NY — August 15, 2026
A captivating and unpredictable summer has reached its most pivotal juncture as the Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, enters the stretch run of its 11-race season. Central New York’s iconic Unadilla MX, arguably the most hallowed grounds in American motocross, will be the site of Round 26 of the 2026 Monster Energy SMX World Championship, kicking off a three-race stretch that will put a period on the regular season by crowning an outdoor 450MX Class and 250MX Class champion. The annual visit to the scenic Unadilla Valley will once again welcome title support from renowned multinational company ELF Fuels & Lubricants for the landmark 40th running of the ELF Lubricants Unadilla National.
Unadilla is the lone venue on the championship calendar that was part of the Pro Motocross Championship’s inaugural season and is arguably the foundational pillar of the summer season because of that. Founded in 1969 by pioneering organizers Ward and Peg Robinson, Unadilla MX is the oldest venue in American motocross.
After a two-week break, the competitors are itching to get back into action. The day will be highlighted by the sibling battle between Hunter and Jett Lawrence as they enter the next chapter at Unadilla. Jett looks to end the recent surge of momentum by Hunter, who has claimed back-to-back victories to establish a 12-point lead.
For Hunter, his midseason run has been nothing short of impressive, with four wins over the last five races and just a single finish outside the top two over those 10 motos. Jett, meanwhile, has been hampered by an uncharacteristic number of miscues that have put him on the ground several times and have likely cost him a couple of wins, resulting in the loss of invaluable championship points.
As has been the case for most of the season, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan lurks in the background. With three straight podium finishes, the premier class rookie has asserted himself as the division’s third-best rider and has continued to improve while racing in the shadow of the Lawrence brothers.
In the 250SMX Class, the battle for the championship appears to be a two-man race between Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies. The veteran experience of Kitchen has allowed him to maintain his hold of the red plate, but Davies has been the class of the field more often than not this summer and certainly has momentum on his side coming into the stretch run. Just seven points sit between the pair.
Kitchen’s Achilles heel has been starts, where he’s giving up six positions on average to Davies, often starting outside the top 10 in a deep field of talent. To his credit, Kitchen has the best finishing average in the class at 4.7, but it’s required him to improve more than eight positions per moto. That rate will be hard to sustain over the final three races, particularly if Davies continues to start up front and applies more pressure on Kitchen.
Cole Davies suffered a crash in qualifying early Saturday when he cross-rutted and flew over the handlebars. Despite landing hard, Davies claims he is ok and ready to race.
In addition to the resumption of the title fights in the 450MX and 250MX classes, Unadilla will signify the anticipated return of the Women’s Motocross Championship Powered by Synchrony (WMX), which will also begin its stretch run of the 2026 campaign. Reigning back-to-back champion and Altus Motorsports bLUcRU Yamaha rider Lachlan Turner sits atop the standings halfway through the six-round season, but sits just nine points ahead of her Australian rival in Quad Lock Honda’s Charli Cannon, who entered the midseason break fresh off her breakthrough first victory on U.S. soil. Unadilla was the site of the pair’s most compelling battle last summer and is poised to once again play a pivotal role in this season’s battle for the WMX crown.

Fresh off of her win (1-3-1) in the Women’s National Championship class at the 2026 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, rookie Mayla Herrick(23) came to Unadilla and grabbed the holeshot in the WMX Moto #1.
Following up on her professional debut win at High Point the day she turned 17, Herrick wants to prove she is a legitimate contender to Lachlan Turner’s(1) dominance of Women’s Motocross. Well, maybe not just yet. Herrick made a few mistakes and dropped to fourth place. Just missing the podium by less than 1 second to Jordan Jarvis(301). LaLa returned to her winning ways, putting a 15-second beat down on Australian Charli Cannon(7).

Casey Cochran(59) got a great start and grabbed the holeshot over Chance Hymas(29) and Cole Davies(37). Levi Kitchen, the fastest qualifier, started in seventh. Julien Beaumer(13) went down early and dropped back to the rear of the field. Cochran’s lead was short-lived; he went down in an over-the-handlebar crash and took a few moments to recover and get off the track. The crash held up Hymas, and Davies took advantage of the chaos to move into the lead. At the midpoint of the moto, Kitchen had advanced to the second spot and was pressuring Davies for the lead.
Beaumer worked his way into the top ten. Kitchen, once he caught Davies, quickly made the pass. As the clock ticked down to 10 minutes to go, Kitchen pulled out to a five second advantage. Behind the leader, Hymas and Davies swapped positions.
Davies eventually yielded second as his crash earlier in the day in qualifying may have been wearing him down. Just when it looked like the top three would ride away from the pack, Hymas went down, Davies recaptured second, and Carson Mumford(71) moved into the final podium spot. The top three finished as they were running, with Hymas in fourth and Ryder DiFrancesco(34) in fifth. Beaumer claimed the ninth position.

Haiden Deegan(38) briefly interrupted the Hunter and Jett show as he got his first 450MX holeshot. Hunter Lawrence(96), Eli Tomac(3), and Jett Lawrence(1) followed. Jorge Prado(26) ran fifth at the start. Deegan bobbles and almost goes down in the second turn. He manages to save it but gives up the lead to Hunter. Tomac begins to drop back while Jett quickly catches up to Deegan.
Danger Boy makes a mistake; Jett pounces but gets squeezed almost off the track and goes down, dropping to the sixth position while he remounts the bike. Prado is next up to challenge Deegan; he makes a clean pass.
Jett climbs back to fourth, moving ahead of RJ Hampshire(24) and Tomac. Just past the halfway point Jett moves back into a podium position, knocking Deegan off that perch. Out front, Hunter leads Prado by eight seconds and shows no sign of letting up. With 10 minutes to go, Jett begins to hone in on Prado. Inching closer every lap, Jett Lawrence makes the pass on Prado just before taking the white flag. For now, advantage Hunter!

In the Women’s Moto #2 it was the other Australian rider, Taylah McCutcheon(10), grabbing the holeshot ahead of Piper Bell(167) and Brandy Richards(198). Mayla Herrick edged out LaLa Turner for fourth at the start. After clearing traffic, including Herrick, Turner moved up to third, 3 seconds behind McCutcheon. Five minutes into the moto, Turner took the lead.
Her nemesis Charli Cannon was closing on McCutcheon for the second spot. Cannon closed to 1.5-seconds of Turner at the checker flag with Herrick fighting back to earn the final podium position. The Overall Event Results mirrored the Moto #2 finish as Turner increased her lead in the season standings.

With championship implications resting on the shoulders of Levi Kitchen and Cole Davies, the start of 250MX Moto #2 was critical for both riders. It seemed at the gate drop that everyone got a great jump off the line. The first corner was so crowded that several riders, including Kitchen and Julien Beaumer, could not make the turn.
The points leader rode straight through the corner, off the track, and sent a photographer scrambling. Once back on the track, Kitchen sat 37th. Out front, Cole Davies got the hole shot, followed by Chance Hymas and Ryder D. The top three ran in that order for the entire 30 minutes of the race.
Kitchen had made it to the 10th spot with 10 minutes to go and was scrambling to retain the red plate and his series points lead. As the clock ran out and 2.5 laps remained, Kitchen was running seventh and in a tie for the championship lead with Davies. On the last lap, he was up to sixth and on the back wheel of Brodie Connolly(144). Making the pass on Connolly gave Kitchen a slim two-point advantage over Davies. Basking in the great comeback, Kitchen went to sleep in the last corner before the finish. Connolly charged hard and nipped Kitchen at the line, taking back the fifth spot. As tight as the 250MX series has been all season will that 1-point come back to haunt Levi Kitchen?

The boys on the big bikes saved the best race for the final moto of the day. Hunter Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, and Jorge Prado ran 1-2-3 across the holeshot line. Haiden Deegan started in the seventh position. The top three jostled for position early. Prado made a pass on Jett, but the younger Lawrence squared Prado up and retook the position. Responding to the challenge, Jett passed Hunter for the lead. Prado also made his way around the points leader.
To make matters worse, Deegan was up to fourth and closing on Hunter. Then disaster struck! Hunter Lawrence crashed at the top of the steepest hill on the course. He tumbled down the hill, had to stop his fall, and then climb back up the hill to where his Honda was tangled in one of the trackside advertising banners. After getting his bike free, it tipped over, and Hunter went for another slide down the slope. Deegan had passed for third, and despite a huge margin over the rest of the pack, Hunter began to slide down the leaderboard. The HRC Progressive Honda was a mangled mess, and Hunter continued to lose positions as he could not find the speed to compete. Pro Motocross pays points to the 21st position; Hunter soon dropped below that line, and his team threw in the white towel. Prado tried to make a race out of the remaining laps. However, Jett Lawrence did what champions do, bearing down to pull away and take the Overall Event title while stealing the red plate and points lead from his brother.
Jett, Prado, and Deegan finished the moto 1-2-3 and the overall in the same order. With the DNF, Hunter went from 7 points up on Jett to -10 heading to Budd’s Creek in Mechanicsville, Maryland next Saturday.

450MX: Jett Lawrence ended a two-race winless drought, which equals his longest in the premier class, for the 28th overall victory of his career on the heels of a 2-1 performance that dramatically altered the championship. Jorge Prado put forth one of his best efforts on American soil with a 3-2 effort that provided him with the third podium finish of the season and his career.
Haiden Deegan amassed his fourth consecutive podium finish in third following a 4-3 effort. It’s the sixth top three result of his rookie campaign. Hunter Lawrence finished eighth overall (1-39) for his worst finish of the season. It marked the first time in the Pro Motocross premier class that he failed to finish inside the top five. As a result of Hunter’s misfortune, he lost control of the points lead as Jett moved back atop the standings with two rounds and four motos remaining. Ten points now separate the siblings.
250MX: Cole Davies’ 2-1 effort gave him his class-leading fourth overall win of the season and his career. Levi Kitchen’s resilient effort in Moto 2 resulted in an improvement of 31 positions. It was enough to land him in the runner-up spot with 1-6 finishes for his fifth podium result of the summer. Chance Hymas rode to a third consecutive overall podium finish in third (4-2) as his second-half surge continued. Kitchen’s performance allowed him to keep hold of the points lead and red plate, with just a single point now sitting between him and Davies with two rounds and four motos remaining.
